Last week, more than 150 military and civilian leaders came together at the Chamber’s annual Command Reception presented by USAA at the beautiful Red Berry Estate. San Antonio has been home to a military presence for many years and hosts the largest joint base in the Department of Defense. Being Military City USA isn’t just a trademark but a testament to the immense support our community provides to our military partners throughout Joint Base San Antonio. The Greater Chamber of Commerce is proud to continue the important work of connecting our civilian and military communities at this annual reception to increase awareness of the military missions, as well as highlight the great work accomplished by our military service members and civilians who call the Alamo region home.

Our annual Command Reception originally began as an event to connect the geographically separated installations and now serves as an Open House bringing together military leaders from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marines, and Coast Guard and business and community leaders from across the region. Hosted each August, this event is also the perfect opportunity to welcome new leaders to our wonderful city.

This year’s event included remarks from: VADM Retired John Bird, Senior Vice President for Military Affairs at USAA; City of San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg; LTG John Evans, Commander, United States Army North (Fifth Army) and Senior Commander, Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis; Lt Gen Brian Robinson, Commander, Air Education and Training Command; and Brig Gen Russell Driggers, Joint Base San Antonio and 502d Air Base Wing Commander. We were also honored to host Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and Precinct 3 Commissioner Grant Moody.
